You may have heard of GDPR or, more likely, have been alerted to its imminent arrival by the slew of emails inviting you to resubscribe to newsletters and mailing lists?
GDPR refers to an EU regulation which does not exist in UK law but which will be incorporated into the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 which comes into effect on 25.5.18 and which supercedes the old rules embodied in DPA 1998.
As part of our preparations to ensure that we comply with the new rules, you will see that we’ve published an updated Privacy Policy which details our reasons for processing your data, our lawful basis for doing so, how long we’ll retain the information, who it will be shared with as well as outlining your rights with respect to rectification of errors, access to data, erasure of data and your rights of complaint. We’ve also posted the identity and contact details for the data controller.
You can find our Privacy Policy under the ‘About ‘ heading on our website.
From a practical point of view, the only change that most of our existing patients will notice is the requirement that if they wish to receive our newsletter or notification of offers or events, they will need to positively opt in to our mailing list.
Obviously if you’d prefer not to continue to receive the newsletter or offers you can unsubscribe at any time.
